Budget 2025-26 needs to focus on capex, infrastructure spending: RBI MPC member Nagesh Kumar

The government should continue to focus on capital expenditure (capex) and infrastructure spending in the upcoming Budget 2025-26 to drive growth amid global challenges, said Nagesh Kumar, member of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

In an interview with ET Now, Kumar said that the government should also look at ways to increase private capex, which has been lagging behind public capex in recent years.

“Government capex has been driving growth. But we need to see how we can increase private capex. We need to see how we can increase the multiplier effect of government capex on private capex,” he said.

Kumar added that the government should also focus on creating jobs and improving the employability of the youth.

“We need to see how we can create jobs, especially for the youth. We need to see how we can improve the employability of the youth,” he said.

The government is expected to present the Budget 2025-26 in February.
