The United States securities regulator will increase scrutiny on digital assets next year. In a new release, the SEC listed Bitcoin and Ethereum
The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has listed Bitcoin and Ethereum in its examination priorities for 2025. Both assets were included in the SEC's scrutiny list for the second year in a row, following a year of heightened regulatory activity.
The SEC's priorities for 2025 also include emerging technologies, such as crypto assets and digital asset securities. The Commission will focus on examining the offer, sale, trade, and advice of crypto assets, with particular attention to initial and ongoing understanding of the products.
The SEC will also review whether registrants meet and follow their respective standards of conduct when recommending or advising customers and clients regarding crypto assets. This includes examining the adequacy of disclosures regarding the risks and rewards of crypto assets, and whether registrants are adequately considering customer and client investment objectives, time horizons, and risk tolerances.
The SEC's inclusion of Bitcoin and Ethereum in its examination priorities is a sign of the increasing importance of digital assets in the United States. The SEC has been gradually increasing its oversight of crypto assets, and its priorities for 2025 indicate that this trend will continue in the coming year.
