These three historic pennies could be worth a fortune - do you have any?
Dec 04, 2024 at 04:00 pm
Coin enthusiasts, take note – your collection could be more valuable than you think. From the "ultra-rare" Kew Gardens 50p to the "rarest" UK coin, it's worth rummaging through your old rare coins.

Coin enthusiasts are being urged to check their collections as some historic pennies could be worth a fortune.
A TikTok user with 212,000 followers, @CoinCollectingWizard, has highlighted three particular pennies to watch out for, including one valued at £1 million.
In his video, he explained: "In 1950, they only made 240,000 coins that means for £1,000 you could have bought all the 1950 pennies ever made.
"After the war there was a great shortage of small change.
"So to find a 1950 UK pre-decimal penny today, you are looking at between £30-£70, depending on condition."
He then mentioned the 1918 KN penny, noting its value varies with condition: "A good grade 1918 KN penny can be over £30 but as the condition increases, such as an extra fine version, you would be looking at over £600."
However, it's the 1954 penny that stands out as one of Britain's most famous coin rarities, according to the TikTok expert.
He added: "This is one of Britain's most famous coin rarities, many other coins are of equal or greater rarity, but for some reason the 1954 has become the best known of these rarities.
"If for some crazy reason you ended up with a 1954 penny though even if only one is known to exist, then you really could be a millionaire."
Despite the rarity of these coins, it's still worth rummaging through your collection.
The video has already garnered 1,000 likes and comments since its upload, with one viewer exclaiming: "I have lots of these," and another adding: "Oh my I have loads of these."
Others inquired about how they could cash in their coins for a windfall.
So why wait? Check your rare coin collection now...
