Oct 09, 2024 at 03:19 pm
The highly anticipated HBO documentary, which has piqued the interest of the cryptocurrency community since its trailer drop, aired Tuesday night and named Peter Todd as Bitcoin BTC/USD
HBO’s highly awaited documentary, which has kept the cryptocurrency community on the edge of their seats since its trailer, finally aired Tuesday night, naming Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) creator Satoshi Nakamoto.
What Happened: The documentary covered the genesis of Bitcoin and introduced several figures from the early days of its development before finally zooming in on the Bitcoin core developer.
In anticipation of the reveal, meme coins referencing the purported inventors of the cryptocurrency gained traction, several of which tanked after Todd was revealed as Satoshi.
Coins dedicated to the late computer scientist Len Sassaman, who was briefly the favorite among cryptocurrency bettors, nosedived, with LEN dropping up to 85%, and SASHA, referencing Sassaman’s cat, plunging 61%, according to CoinMarketCap.
Memecoin linked to Blockstream CEO Adam Back, who was featured in the documentary, sank over 96%. Similarly, SZABO, inspired by Nick Szabo, who tech mogul Elon Musk had once hinted at being Satoshi, tumbled nearly 90%.
Expectedly, a meme coin dedicated to Todd, called PeterTodd, exploded by 1591% on the reveal.

Why It Matters: Satoshi Nakamoto is the pseudonym for the person who authored the Bitcoin whitepaper and is credited with developing the first-ever cryptocurrency project.
Several persons have claimed or were widely believed to be Satoshi, but their true identity is yet to be confirmed.
Even in the latest development, Todd has explicitly denied being Satoshi.
Price Action: At the last check, Bitcoin was trading at $62,417.25, virtually unchanged in the last 24 hours, according to data from Benzinga Pro.
