Hayden Davis, Co-Creator of the LIBRA Meme Coin, Claimed He Paid Karina Milei to Sway Argentine President Javier Milei's Support Before the Token's Launch

Hayden Davis, the co-creator of the meme coin LIBRA and the CEO of Kelsier Ventures, has claimed that he paid Karina Milei, the sister of Argentine President Javier Milei, to gain the president’s support for the token before its launch.

According to a report by CoinDesk, months before the token collapsed, Davis sent text messages claiming that he had “control” over Milei, boasting that he had bought access to the Argentine President’s trusted circle.

The messages were later published by local media. In one conversation, Davis was seeking funding from an exec at an unnamed crypto firm for the Libra launch, which they declined.

“I control that n****,” Davis wrote. “I send $$ to his sister and he signs whatever I say and does what I want,” he added.

A spokesperson for Davis, Michael Padovano, claimed that the LIBRA co-creator had no recollection of sending the message and that his phone records showed no evidence of it.

“Recent media reports claiming I paid President Javier Milei or his sister, Karina Milei, to launch the Libra memecoin are completely false. I never made any payments to them, nor did they request any. Their only concern was ensuring proceeds from Libra would benefit Argentina’s people and economy,” the statement continued.

The statement also alleged that the disclosure of these messages was part of a politically driven effort to damage President Milei.

According to the report by Coinbase, it remains unclear whether any funds were exchanged between Davis and those close to Milei before the launch of the meme coin.

Karina Milei holds a key position in her brother’s administration as Argentina’s General Secretariat of the Presidency, which carries ministerial-level responsibilities.

After an endorsement from President Milei on February 14, the meme coin, which operates on the Solana blockchain, soared to a market cap of $4.5 billion. However, within hours, its value crashed by over 90%, with reports indicating that insiders had extracted more than $107 million in liquidity. The incident led to criminal fraud charges and impeachment calls against President Milei.

Davis, who is also known for his involvement in several other meme coin projects, including the MELANIA token, which was linked to US First Lady Melania Trump, has acknowledged making a profit of $100 million from the launch of the meme coin. However, he expressed uncertainty about how to proceed with the funds after reports emerged that Milei’s team had abandoned the project.
