Controversial social media figure “Hawk Tuah Girl” Hailey Welch, who recently flouted her namesake memecoin HAWK, is facing a class-action lawsuit
A class-action lawsuit has been filed against “Hawk Tuah Girl” Hailey Welch and her crypto venture, alleging securities law violations. The lawsuit, filed in a Florida federal court, accuses Welch and her team of misleading investors in the meme coin HAWK. According to the complaint, the plaintiffs, twelve individuals, suffered a collective financial loss of $151,000.
The lawsuit alleges that the meme coin team engaged in fraudulent conduct by making false and deceptive statements and omissions. It further claims that the defendants promoted HAWK as a legitimate investment opportunity, promising high returns. However, the plaintiffs contend that the project was, in fact, a fraudulent scheme designed to enrich the defendants at the expense of unsuspecting investors.
Welch, known for her viral content on social media, is closely associated with the namesake memecoin. The plaintiffs allege that her endorsement and promotion of HAWK played a crucial role in attracting investors to the cryptocurrency. Notably, since the launch of the token, Welch has been largely inactive on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
The lawsuit seeks damages, restitution, and other forms of relief for the injured investors. It also requests a jury trial to determine the extent of the defendants’ liability.
The legal action against the HAWK team highlights the increasing scrutiny faced by meme coins and their promoters. As the cryptocurrency market continues to evolve, regulators and law enforcement agencies are ramping up their efforts to protect investors from fraudulent schemes.
