The Hawk Tuah girl - aka Haliey Welch - has revealed how her boyfriend was among one of her fans who lost ‘life savings’ after buying her cryptocurrency.
Welch shot to fame last year after she gave a very NSFW answer to the question, ‘what makes a guy go crazy in bed?’
Her reply, which was caught on video during a street interview on a night out, earned her the viral nickname.
But shortly after she found fame, Haliey decided to branch out into cryptocurrency, launching the $HAWK memecoin.
Unfortunately, it didn't go to plan, losing 90 per cent of its value just hours after it launched.
The cryptocurrency, which was reportedly never registered with The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), hit a $490m market cap shortly after launch, as per Crypto Times.
However, it took a nosedive within hours, plummeting to just $41 million and leaving fans out of pocket.
It saw investors claim Haliey carried out a rug pull, which is where creators of cryptocurrency sell off their stock leading to prices crashing and those who put money into it with coins being next to nothing.
Some of these fans who felt mislead or betrayed by Haliey took to taking legal action against the creators behind the coin.
But now, Haliey has opened up about the scandal, saying that her boyfriend, Pookie, was one investor who was impacted by the scandal.
Speaking in what has been described as a ‘leaked’ episode of Talk Tuah, featuring FaZe Clan founder Banks, Haliey spoke about what happened, explaining that her partner, Pookie (aka Kelby Blackwell) lost money himself.
"Pookie lost money too," she said.
"He said, 'How you going to take my money'? He still gives me s**t all the time, he says, 'I wish I had my $300 back.'"
Haliey went on to discuss what happened, becoming emotional at times.
She said: "I want to start by saying thank you to all my true fans and all the people that actually watch my stuff and they keep up with me. We're trying to sort out all the pieces and stuff to, like, get all this figured out and make everything right. Oh my God, I'm gonna cry."
Banks replied: "Don't cry. Don't cry, Don't cry."
Haliey continued: "Well, so basically how this idea got brought to me, it was supposed to be, like, a more, they call it long term coin. And the guy that ran the account, he was like, 'Oh, we're gonna change, like, the way everybody thinks of crypto.
"Crypto is gonna be a good place. And I feel really bad for all the people that got affected by it, and it just didn't go the way I planned. And all the money out of this episode is getting donated to all the animals that have been affected by the fires up here."
After the episode was shared online, Banks took to social media, explaining: "So in an attempt to hear Haliey Welch’s side of the Crypto scam story, I agreed to do her first podcast back.
"I had heavy stipulations including; Not allowing markets to be manipulated by leaking this episodes existence before a resolution was found.
"Her team finding a REAL solution regarding the money she made, where that should go and what to do with the $HAWK project moving forward.
"These were nonstarters and we were told this episode would only ever see the light of day if we explicitly green lit it.
