Kamala Harris finally comes out in favor of cryptocurrencies
After months in which, while granting new openings to the crypto industry, Kamala Harris had yet to explicitly come out in favor of cryptocurrencies, the day seems to have finally arrived.
We learn this from an update to her election program, in which the launch of the “Kamala Harris Will Deliver for Black Men” plan is announced. The idea would be to secure the favor of the African-American community by funding the activities of small business owners and investors. More specifically, by kicking off a new funding plan, drafting health care reform, and “protecting” investors in the crypto market with a new dedicated regulatory framework.
Cryptos, in this sense, would be understood as a useful channel to bring the community “closer to banking and financial services,” yet requiring new security measures to defend investors.
Cryptos and the “black” electorate
All of this outlines an openly pro-crypto stance by Harris, who in the past had been limited to approaching the topic only cross-culturally, speaking, for example, of digital innovation. Now the reference to the crypto industry is explicit, for a campaign that aims to make up ground on Donald Trump in this area as well.
It remains curious that the Dem candidate addressed the crypto issue limitedly to a social minority, appealing to a narrow demographic. For analysts, this would have been necessitated by the latest polls, which have seen Harris losing points even in historically Dem parts of the electorate.
Crypto thus becomes a functional tool in the plan to “reclaim” the “black” American electorate, along with the promise of marijuana legalization or new education programs.
