Off The Grid (OTG), a third-person battle royale shooter with a cyberpunk theme, is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via the Epic Games Store. It was created by a studio that was co-founded by Neill Blomkamp, the director of “District 9” and “Chappie.” The independent game studio has launched its GUNZ blockchain on the Avalanche subnet in order to provide high performance and scalability.

According to a statement that was posted on Avalanche's official X account, Off The Grid aims to revolutionize the battle royale genre by putting an emphasis on storytelling and digital ownership. This will give players the ability to influence both the narrative and the gameplay through the decisions that they make while playing the game. Within the triple-A game, GUNZ aims to establish one of the first player-friendly crypto-economies, giving players complete ownership of their in-game items, which are represented as NFTs.

Off the Grid does not yet have an official release date, despite the fact that it entered early access on October 10. However, it is anticipated to be released before the conclusion of the current year.

The following is a breakdown of how GUNZ makes use of Avalanche's capabilities:

Avalanche, which was introduced in September of 2020, has fundamentally altered the landscape of blockchain technology by providing transaction finality that occurs almost instantaneously. At the present time, Avalanche provides support for more than 500 different applications, each of which spans a diverse range of industries, including finance, gaming, and NFTs. Avalanche was developed with a primary emphasis on sustainability, and it has a minimal impact on the climate when compared to more conventional blockchain platforms, which frequently consume a substantial amount of energy during the processing of transitions.

When compared to Ethereum, Avalanche's consensus protocol is designed to enable the network to validate transactions at a quicker rate. Because of this, Avalanche is capable of processing more than 4,500 transactions per second (TPS), which is necessary for a fast-paced game like OTG.

The native token of the GUNZ network is known as GUN. A player may be eligible to receive the token as a reward for securing kills, placing among the top players in a match, or completing both weekly and daily challenges. In addition to this, Gunzilla has designed the network in such a way that it may be utilized by other developers. This is done with the intention of making the GUN token a versatile currency that can be accepted by a variety of games in the future, ultimately contributing to the establishment of a sustainable and player-driven economy that is advantageous to both players and developers.

When the GUNZ network eventually goes live on the mainnet, players will have the ability to mint NFTs that represent in-game items, and these NFTs can subsequently be traded and sold on a variety of marketplaces, including within OTG. Furthermore, this feature gives players the ability to own and generate revenue from their assets. Avalanche is designed to scale easily, accommodating a large number of players simultaneously. This is particularly important when multiple players are interacting and competing in the game.

In March of 2024, VanEck's private cryptocurrency fund made its second wager on Web3-enabled gaming when it invested in Gunzilla Games, following an earlier investment in Parallel, a Web3 card game in which tradable cards are represented on-chain as NFTs.

These strategic investments highlight the growing interest in blockchain technology within the gaming sector, demonstrating how the integration of on-chain assets enhances player engagement and ownership, ultimately transforming the landscape of digital gaming.
