Google Snaps Up Wiz in $320M Deal to Bolster Cloud Security
Mar 19, 2025 at 12:00 am
This acquisition marks one of Google’s largest cybersecurity investments, aiming to strengthen cloud security and support multicloud adoption in the AI-driven era.
Google is making its biggest cybersecurity move yet with the $32 billion acquisition of cloud security firm Wiz in an all-cash deal, the company announced Monday.
What Happened: The Israel-based startup, which specializes in protecting cloud environments, will become part of Google Cloud once the deal closes.
The merger will see Wiz’s products remain available across multiple cloud platforms, while Google Cloud will continue offering partner security solutions. The deal is still subject to regulatory approval.
This acquisition marks one of Google’s largest cybersecurity investments as the company aims to strengthen cloud security and support multicloud adoption in the AI-driven era.
"We are excited to welcome the Wiz team to Google," said Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud. "This acquisition will help us to accelerate our vision for the future of cybersecurity, which is to make security seamless, efficient, and effective for every organization."
"Together, we will continue to innovate and deliver the best possible security solutions to our customers."

The acquisition comes as cyberattacks are hitting businesses harder than ever before. According to Flashpoint’s 2025 Global Threat Intelligence Report, the number of data breaches increased by 6% year-over-year in 2024.
Ransomware, compromised credentials, and exploited vulnerabilities were the main drivers of breaches, which hit cloud systems the hardest.
Of the 82% of breaches involving cloud data in 2024, breaches across multiple environments cost businesses an average of $4.75 million per incident.
"As cybercriminals grow increasingly sophisticated in their use of AI to launch cyberattacks, we need to equip organizations with advanced technologies and seamless integration to outpace the attackers," said Barak, CEO and co-founder of Wiz.
"We are excited to join forces with Google Cloud to deliver unmatched security capabilities that will empower organizations to operate in today's hybrid, multicloud world."
What's Next: The Google Wiz acquisition has significant implications for the crypto sector, especially as Google Cloud expands its offerings for blockchain and Web3 projects.
Crypto firms relying on Google Cloud for exchange architecture, wallet security, and DeFi service could see direct integration of Wiz solutions.
This move positions Google to counter the growing threat of cryptocurrency hacks and scams, ultimately aiming to enhance trust in crypto services powered by Google's technology.
Moreover, if Wiz introduces new security standards, it may set industry benchmarks for digital asset protection, aligning with the increasing focus on cybersecurity in the blockchain and cryptocurrency domains.
