Fantom Foundation welcomes Sam Kazemian, founder of Frax Finance, as an angel investor. This strategic partnership coincides with Frax Finance utilizing its native issuance capabilities on Fantom's inaugural deployment of the Sonic tech stack, a suite of enhancements expected to yield over 2000 TPS while maintaining compatibility with existing Fantom protocols.
Frax Finance Creator Joins Fantom Foundation as Angel Investor
Fantom, March 27, 2024 - The Fantom Foundation has announced that Sam Kazemian, the founder of Frax Finance, has joined the company as an angel investor. This investment marks a strategic partnership between the two organizations, coinciding with Frax Finance's decision to utilize its native issuance capabilities on Fantom's recently launched Sonic technology stack.
Fantom's Sonic Upgrade
Earlier this month, the Fantom Foundation unveiled the Fantom Sonic testnet, which incorporates a new virtual machine (FVM), an enhanced database storage named Carmen, and an optimized Lachesis consensus mechanism. These improvements are designed to significantly increase performance and compatibility, without requiring a hard fork. As a result, smart contracts, services, and tools currently available on the Fantom Opera network are fully compatible with the Sonic upgrade. Additionally, Sonic is projected to achieve over 2000 transactions per second (TPS).
Frax Finance's Expansion Roadmap
Last week, Frax Finance published a detailed roadmap outlining its plans to grow the total dollar value locked (TVL) within its layer-2 blockchain, Fraxtal, to $100 billion by 2026. At the time of writing, the TVL in Fraxtal is approximately $15.2 million, according to DefiLama.
The roadmap includes the launch of 23 layer-3 protocols within one year, as well as the introduction of new assets such as frxNEAR, frxTIA, and frxMETIS. These assets will be issued through Fraxtal as part of the growth initiative, alongside FRAX, sFRAX, and frxETH.
Tokenomics and Governance Enhancements
In addition to technological advancements, Frax Finance has introduced innovative tokenomics to ensure the full collateralization of its stablecoin, FRAX. FXS, the governance and utility token of the Frax ecosystem, enables holders to stake their tokens to receive veFXS. Both FXS and veFXS can be staked on the Ethereum mainnet and Fraxtal. This move aims to enhance returns on staked FRAX (sFRAX) and solidify FRAX's status as one of the world's leading dollar-pegged stablecoins.
Partnership Significance
The partnership between Fantom Foundation and Frax Finance is a significant development that combines the strengths of both organizations. Frax Finance's expertise in stablecoin issuance and decentralized finance (DeFi) will complement Fantom's rapidly growing ecosystem and high-performance blockchain infrastructure.
Conclusion
The investment by Sam Kazemian, the launch of Fantom Sonic, and Frax Finance's ambitious roadmap are all testaments to the vibrant and innovative landscape of the blockchain industry. The partnership between Fantom Foundation and Frax Finance is poised to drive further growth and adoption of DeFi and stablecoins, paving the way for a more decentralized and inclusive financial future.
