European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde has indicated that Bitcoin is unlikely to be incorporated into central bank reserves
European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde has stated that Bitcoin will not be included in any EU central bank reserves, highlighting the need for liquidity, security, and safety in reserve assets.
This statement follows a discussion with Czech National Bank Governor Aleš Michl, who proposed diversifying the Czech central bank’s reserves with Bitcoin. While the central bank’s board voted to explore additional asset classes, Bitcoin was not specifically mentioned.
ECB officials have earlier expressed support for further research into a digital euro in response to developments in the financial sector.
