Dogecoin (DOGE) Struggles to Regain Momentum as Solana Meme Coins Surge with Massive Gains

Jan 31, 2025 at 03:42 pm

Dogecoin (DOGE) is showing signs of recovery after hitting its lowest price of 2025 earlier this week. However, Solana-based meme coins are stealing the spotlight with significantly larger gains, as some leading tokens on the blockchain surge by over 30% in just 24 hours.

Dogecoin (DOGE) showed signs of recovery on Monday after hitting its lowest price of 2025 earlier this week. However, Solana-based meme coins stole the spotlight with significantly larger gains, as some leading tokens on the blockchain surged by over 30% in just 24 hours.

Dogecoin Struggles to Regain Momentum

After dipping below $0.31 on Monday, Dogecoin has bounced back by 4% in the last day, now trading around $0.337, according to CoinGecko. Despite the rebound, DOGE is still down 5% over the past week, struggling to regain its previous momentum.

Dogecoin had previously peaked above $0.43 on January 17, but its price plummeted following the surprising launch of Donald Trump’s Solana-based meme coin just three days before Inauguration Day. Moreover, Dogecoin open interest has dropped, indicating a decrease in trader enthusiasm.

Solana Meme Coins Surge with Massive Gains

While Dogecoin recovered at a slow pace, Solana meme coins experienced explosive price surges.

Fartcoin (FARTCOIN) Stages a Strong Comeback

Leading the pack was Fartcoin (FARTCOIN), which saw a 38% spike in the past 24 hours, reclaiming its spot in the top 100 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization. The token currently trades at $1.27, though it’s down 15% in the last week and a steep 50% from its all-time high set 11 days ago.

The token’s recent downturn was largely due to a major sell-off by Andy Ayrey, the creator of the Truth Terminal AI bot, which originally conceived Fartcoin. But its resurgence appears to be driven by improving sentiment in the broader crypto market—and possibly even a bizarre viral news story about a UK woman convicted in a “cyber-farting” scheme.

Buttholecoin (BUTTHOLE) Surges 53%

Another Solana meme coin making waves was Buttholecoin (BUTTHOLE), which surged 53% in the last 24 hours. While Buttholecoin remains outside the top 100 coins by market cap, it currently boasts a $61 million market valuation and is gaining steam as traders embrace its unconventional branding.

SPX6900 Gains 27% While Trump’s Solana Coin Lags

Among top 100 Solana meme coins, SPX6900 also rallied with a 27% jump in the last 24 hours, bringing it back to even levels over the past week. However, the token is still down 22% from its all-time high.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s official Solana meme coin saw only a 2% increase, trading around $27.50, lagging behind its meme coin competitors in terms of gains.

Meme Coin Mania on Solana Continues

The latest surge in Solana meme coins showcased the unpredictable and highly volatile nature of the market. As Dogecoin had difficulty regaining its early 2025 momentum, Solana-based tokens like Fartcoin and Buttholecoin rapidly ascended, fueled by market sentiment, viral stories, and trader speculation.
