Recent reports emerging on X have brought to light a vulnerability known as “DogeReaper” that has compromised the Dogecoin blockchain, rendering the majority of the network nodes inactive.
However, further investigation reveals that this breach seems to have affected only outdated versions of the software, leaving the network largely unaffected. Multiple analysts have also attested to the network’s continued decentralization and stability.
“Recent reports about Dogecoin nodes being impacted concern only outdated versions,” noted DogeUni, a Dogecoin community handle, adding, “The latest Dogecoin versions remain unaffected, ensuring the network’轱s decentralization and stability are intact.”
The attack reportedly took down 442 active nodes out of a total of 647, but most of them have since been reactivated after updating to the latest version of the software.
This vulnerability, dubbed “DogeReaper,” was initially discovered and reported by a developer named Tobias Ruck, who received a bounty of only $200 for his efforts. As the vulnerability is now being exploited, members of the Dogecoin community are expressing concern about the future of DOGE.
“It is not a very critical vulnerability, but it can make you nervous when it is being covered by serious news organizations. DOGE still stands out as the best memecoin,” stated a crypto news handle on X.
