Distribution of minority cards begins in Punjab

Punjab has started distributing minority cards, with a ceremony held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Lahore on Monday.

During the event, Deputy Commissioner Lahore, Syed Musa Rizvi, distributed the cards to members of the minority community.

The cards were issued after biometric verification, and each recipient will receive a monthly payment of 10,500 rupees.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Commissioner Lahore stated that this initiative was aimed at alleviating the economic hardships faced by the minority community.

Through the Minority Cards, members of the minority community will be provided with the opportunity to live a dignified life.

He further assured that under the guidance of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, financial assistance will be provided to the deserving and underprivileged individuals.

Previously, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz increased the number of Minority Cards to be issued in the province to 75,000 from 50,000.

She said 50,000 families in Punjab would receive Rs10,500 after every three months and the amount would be increased in the coming years, while number of beneficiary households would be hiked to 75,000.

She added that Rs10,500 was a meagre amount but a token gift on behalf of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and the Punjab government. She said the grant issued on the eve of minority festivals had been increased from Rs10,000 to Rs15,000.

"Neighbourhoods and religious places of the minority communities are also being developed. A cemetery for the Christian community will be ready in a few months. The annual development budget for the minority communities has been increased by 60 per cent," The Punjab CM added.
