Devcon 7 kicked off in Bangkok today, running from 12th to 15th November, and with it comes a huge range of side events. The list of side events seems to go on forever, and you’ll need to make some choices to visit events that you’re interested in, as you can literally find events spread out over the whole city. So, let’s take a closer look at some Devcon 7 side events in Bangkok.

Flare Run

It was an early start this morning, with the first event being the Flare Run in Benjakitti and Lumphini park, organized by Flare Network. It was a great chance to connect with other running-minded crypto仲間仲間. Each day there are various early morning sports events, such as running, yoga, climbing, or other sports.

Some 40 people made it 6.30 am to the starting point, and we had an interesting run around the two parks, which are connected by a small gangway. It was great to connect with people from various sectors of the crypto industry.

Wow Summit

The Wow Summit is a crypto conference being held alongside the main Devcon 7 event, with various crypto-related booths, and a stage for panel discussions. Among the booths, there’s a very high attendance from China, although many even with lots of staff don’t speak any English at all.

The event is running over two days, although it’s not as busy here as yesterday, which is most likely due to the main Devcon 7 event starting today. Still, there’s an optimistic vibe as everybody woke up to BTC at $88,000, and now a couple of hours later BTC is closing in on $90k. There’s an optimistic vibe in the hall.

So far, I visited two panel discussions. The first one was about TradFi meeting DeFi, with some takeaway points being, for example:

The Multichain Universe: Navigating the Future of Interoperability, with some key points of this panel being, for example:

Later today, there will also be the Sui Connect Bangkok taking place, which should be a very busy and popular event.

Sui Connect Bangkok

As expected, Sui Connect Bangkok was super busy, with Sui being at the center point of attention right now. There’s also quite a bit of interest from EVM projects for Sui, and the atmosphere was electric, with many Sui builders and wanna-be or soon-to-be builders attending, plus loads of different people, not only from the Sui ecosystem but also from different crypto sectors.

Ranier from Sui gave a short presentation, and it was interesting to see that the next Sui Basecamp 2025 will be in Dubai on 1st and 2nd May. I also met with the founders of a new Sui AI project, Oscar, who are planning to launch a testnet in the next 3–4 months, and will be offering GPU services, so something to look forward to. One of the other attendees was Kris, founder of Scallop.

To sum up, it was an interesting start of Devcon 7 in Bangkok, with three more days of action and conferences to follow. Make sure to read our update about GeckoCon from yesterday.
