Degen Chain Outage Halts Network, Disrupts Services

May 13, 2024 at 04:08 pm

Degen Chain, an Ethereum-based Layer 3 blockchain dedicated to the Degen meme token, has experienced operational downtime, suspending block production and affecting associated services. The outage, which commenced at block #15524774, has rendered decentralized applications and bridges on Degen Chain inoperable, hindering user transactions. The Degen Chain team is working to resolve the issues in collaboration with Conduit, the rollup infrastructure platform.

Degen Chain Outage Grinds Network to a Halt, Affecting Services and Raising Concerns

The Layer 3 Ethereum-based blockchain Degen Chain, designed specifically for the Degen meme token, has been experiencing an extended outage, disrupting its operations and affecting associated services. The outage, which began unexpectedly on Sunday afternoon, has halted the production of new blocks for over 11 hours, as indicated by the network's block explorer.

The network became stuck at block #15524774 around 4:15 p.m. ET on Sunday, causing a widespread disruption that has rendered various decentralized applications (dApps) and bridges on Degen Chain inoperable. Users of these platforms, including Relay bridge, DegenSwap, Mint Club, and Frogswap, are currently unable to execute transactions.

In response to the outage, the Degen Chain team has stated that it is actively working to resolve the issue in collaboration with Conduit, the rollup infrastructure platform it utilizes. Degen Chain operates on the Arbitrum Orbit tech stack and primarily settles on Base, leveraging the AnyTrust protocol to ensure data availability.

Syndicate, a Web3 services provider, led the development of Degen Chain in late March, and the chain currently holds $2.6 million in total value locked (TVL), according to DeFiLlama. Notably, the native gas token for Degen Chain is Degen, an ERC-20 token on Base that was created in the Degen channel on Farcaster in January 2024.

Despite the network issues, the on-chain activities of the Degen token on Base have remained unaffected, indicating that the token's operations have not been impacted by the current problems.

The ongoing outage has raised concerns among Degen Chain users and the wider cryptocurrency community. The prolonged downtime has disrupted the functionality of dApps and bridges, leaving users unable to access their assets or conduct transactions. The team's efforts to resolve the issue are ongoing, and further updates on the situation are expected in the coming hours.
