Crypto veteran Austin Hilton, known for his viral videos and engaging content, has dropped a new rumor in his latest video focused on XRP. With a subscriber count of 344k on YouTube, Hilton's videos often generate a buzz in the crypto community.
In this recent video, Hilton shared what he called a "massive XRP Ripple rumor." From the outset, he emphasized that this is just a rumor and not confirmed news. "Don't go in the comments saying, 'That's not true.' I'm telling you—it's a rumor," Hilton stated clearly.
The rumor centers around a potential relationship between Ripple and SWIFT, the global messaging network used by financial institutions to securely transmit money transfer instructions. SWIFT is a cornerstone of the traditional banking system, with banks, governments, and major financial institutions like Deutsche Bank, Bank of America, Citigroup, and the Bank of England relying on it to handle trillions of dollars in transactions.
According to Hilton, there are three versions of the rumor circulating in the crypto community about Ripple's possible role with SWIFT.
The first scenario suggests a partnership between Ripple and SWIFT. Under this arrangement, Ripple would assist in or streamline international transactions via the SWIFT network. This would be a significant development for Ripple, potentially increasing XRP's utility in the global financial system.
The second scenario is more ambitious, suggesting Ripple might take over a percentage of SWIFT's transaction volume. This would position Ripple as a supplementary infrastructure provider for some money flows in the global banking system.
The third and most dramatic scenario suggests Ripple completely replacing SWIFT. Hilton expressed skepticism about this possibility, stating, "I don't really believe that… I think it's more like Option A," referring to the partnership scenario.
Despite the speculative nature of these rumors, Hilton believes there might be some truth to them. He points to consistent narratives and hints about Ripple partnering with major financial players. Hilton mentioned that Ripple executives have been meeting with banks and institutions, and he referenced Ripple's Hidden Road acquisition as part of a broader expansion strategy.
"This rumor might have some legs, some credibility," suggested Hilton, though he was careful to reiterate that there's no concrete evidence or confirmation yet. He shared the rumor because he believes it "could develop into something real" and considered it "video-worthy… because there could be something here."
