Today, we've curated notable crypto and blockchain news from the Philippines for the past week (March 10-16, 2025).

Crypto PH News Recap: Mar. 10 – 16, 2025

From TravelX’s expansion to PayFi in Siargao, here are some crypto updates from the Philippines.

This Week in PH Crypto: TravelX Expands, CoinEx Sponsors Chess Champsincludes an intro highlighting a round-up of crypto and blockchain news from the Philippines for the past week.

TravelX Expands in PH

Cebu Pacific Air and blockchain travel technology company TravelX are partnering to enhance the airline’s post-booking revenue management using blockchain-based solutions.

The partnership expands TravelX’s footprint in the Philippines as it seeks to revolutionize the travel industry with its Algorand-based platform and NFTickets that tokenize airline seats for convenient transferability and resale.

CoinEx Activities in PH

CoinEx is sponsoring the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) Chess Championships, where top Filipino players will compete for a spot in the Asian Youth Chess Championships in Thailand.

CoinEx's sponsorship of the NCFP Chess Championships showcases its commitment to supporting local talent and fostering new generations of leaders in the Philippines.

CoinEx was also present at Pasigarbo 2025 at Holy Name University (HNU) during its annual HNU Days from Feb. 17-22.

The event, which drew an audience of over 1,000, featured interactive games, food stalls, and raffle prizes. CoinEx engaged the crowd with the AniChess Crypto Game and Mole Smash, while promoting the CoinEx app and its services.

Worldcoin Participants in Bulacan

A report by Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho highlighted the mixed reactions to Worldcoin as some participants successfully converted their $WLD tokens to cash while others faced difficulties with withdrawals.

In Bulacan, Filipinos queued for iris scanning by Worldcoin, exchanging their biometric data for up to ₱2,500. Among them were Jhe Mendoza, Elenita and Evangeline Serrano, and Abigail Doria.

While Mendoza expressed certainty in the project’s legitimacy, the Serrano family and Doria had reservations, weighing their financial need against privacy concerns.

Tricycle driver Renato “Henry” Supnit shared his frustrations over withdrawal issues and fears of data misuse, leading him to ultimately delete the World app.

Duterte Memecoins

Following the arrest of former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte at Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Solana-based memecoins themed after him quickly emerged on the Pump.fun platform.

Despite the high-profile event, these tokens have seen minimal trading activity and investor interest.

Each of the three memecoins launched has a market cap of less than $5,000, and many failed to even reach the bonding curve—a pricing mechanism on Pump.fun where a token’s price increases as more people buy in.

This lack of demand prevented the tokens from gaining traction and they remain stuck at their initial price levels.

Bitget Wallet and Buhayin Partner to Boost Digital Inclusio in Siargao

An advocacy group focused on island communities, Buhayin has partnered with Bitget Wallet and crypto exchange Bitget to enhance financial and digital inclusion in Siargao through the PayFi initiative.

The collaboration was launched during Kapit-Isla Siargao from March 12-16, 2025, introducing blockchain-based financial tools and digital literacy programs to local businesses and residents.

The partnership aims to empower Siargao's community by providing them with the knowledge and resources to navigate the evolving digital financial landscape.

PayFi, Bitget Wallet's new blockchain payment system, allows merchants to accept stablecoins and digital assets, facilitating fast, low-cost transactions without intermediaries.
