The Portugal captain is rumoured to be getting the special treatment in his homeland with a coin being made to commemorate his achievements with the national team.

According to Pacific Precious Metals, the coin will be officially valued at €7, but it is expected to fetch a much higher price due to its rarity and the footballer's status.

Speaking to SunSport, Dan Barrett of Pacific Precious Metals said: "With Cristiano Ronaldo's status as one of the most recognisable athletes in the world, the CR7 Euro coin is expected to draw tremendous interest from both collectors and fans.

"Given the coin's gold content and Ronaldo's worldwide following, we could see this coin selling for up to $150,000 [£113k] on the collector's market.

"The combination of a limited edition, gold content, and Ronaldo's brand will ensure this coin's value appreciates rapidly, especially once it hits the secondary market.

"Collectors will see it as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."

Ronaldo is one of football's greatest ever players, having already won 214 caps for his country.

In a frightening tally, the 39-year-old has netted 132 times for Portugal and even helped them to Euro 2016 glory.

The recent international break saw Ronaldo bag the 900th goal of his career so far in the UEFA Nations League clash with Croatia earlier this month.

Speaking after the 2-0 victory, Ronaldo said: "900 goals seems like any other milestone, but only I know how hard it is to work every day to score your 900th goal.

"It's a unique milestone in my career. I don't break records… they haunt me!"

Speaking to former Manchester United team-mate Rio Ferdinand on his YouTube channel, Ronaldo declared he wants to hit the magical mark of 1,000 goals.

"If I don't have any injuries, this for me is the most important, I want that," Ronaldo said.

"For me, the best mark that I can have in football is to reach, first, 900 goals. After, my challenge is to be at 1,000 goals."

Brazil icon Pele is considered the highest goalscorer of all time by some, with FIFA crediting him with 1,281 goals, but it is now widely accepted that hundreds of those goals came in friendly matches.

Referencing Pele's alleged haul, Ronaldo continued: "With one difference, all the goals that I score, they have video. So I can prove that it's [real]."
