Cosmos EVM (Previously Evmos) Goes Open Source, Aiming to Enhance Interoperability Between Ethereum and Cosmos
Mar 19, 2025 at 08:35 pm
The Interchain Foundation (ICF), the steward of the Cosmos ecosystem, has taken a significant step forward by open-sourcing Evmos, now rebranded as Cosmos EVM.
The Interchain Foundation (ICF) has taken a significant step in advancing interoperability between two leading blockchain ecosystems—Ethereum and Cosmos—with the open sourcing of Evmos, now rebranded as Cosmos EVM.
This integration aims to facilitate seamless cross-chain communication and innovation.
As reported by Blockfolio, the ICF is adding Evmos to the official Interchain software stack, which includes the Cosmos SDK.
This integration will streamline the process for developers to include Evmos in their Cosmos-based blockchains, setting the stage for advanced cross-chain capabilities.
Initially unveiled in 2016 as Ethermint, Evmos was designed to introduce EVM compatibility to the Cosmos ecosystem.
Launching its mainnet in 2022, Evmos enables the creation of EVM-powered blockchains using the Cosmos SDK.
Now, as Cosmos EVM, it will serve as the canonical EVM framework for over 200 appchains within the Cosmos ecosystem.
In other developments, Evmos token has seen a significant plummet over the past 24 hours, with its price falling nearly 30%, as noted by CoinMarketCap.
Open Sourcing Cosmos EVM
The open-source release of Cosmos EVM, licensed under Apache 2.0, marks a new chapter for the Cosmos ecosystem.
This initiative allows developers to readily integrate EVM compatibility, including support for JSON-RPC and Ethereum wallets, into their Cosmos-based blockchains.
The lightweight EVM configuration also supports native ERC-20 tokens, further bridging the gap between the two ecosystems.
The integration of Cosmos EVM is anticipated to strengthen cross-chain interoperability, particularly through the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol.
This development aligns with the ICF’s mission to foster permissionless innovation and create a more inclusive blockchain ecosystem.
Leading the Integration
Federico Kunze Küllmer, co-founder of Evmos, will be transitioning from his role as a core contributor to an advisory position.
His expertise will be invaluable to the ICF as they focus on enhancing Cosmos EVM’s interoperability and modular architecture.
With Kunze Küllmer's departure, the ICF and its subsidiary, Interchain Labs, will assume the primary responsibility for the ongoing development and integration of Cosmos EVM.
This move underscores the collective effort invested in advancing the Cosmos ecosystem.

- Replacing Parts of the Reasoning Process with Latent Discrete Tokens Improves Large Language Model Reasoning
- Mar 20, 2025 at 06:26 am
- LLMs have shown significant improvements when explicitly trained on structured reasoning traces, allowing them to solve mathematical equations, infer logical conclusions, and navigate multistep planning tasks. However, the computational resources required to process these lengthy reasoning traces are substantial. This work introduces a novel technique that integrates discrete latent tokens into LLM reasoning.
