Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong Advocates for Bitcoin-Only U.S. Reserve

Mar 04, 2025 at 08:30 am

Brian Armstrong, CEO of crypto exchange Coinbase (Nasdaq: COIN), shared his thoughts on social media platform X on March 2 regarding President Donald Trump's proposed crypto strategic reserve.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong Advocates for Bitcoin-Only U.S. Reserve

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has weighed in on former President Donald Trump’s mooted bitcoin and crypto strategic reserve, suggesting that a bitcoin-only reserve would be the "simplest" and preferred option.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Armstrong said that he was "excited to learn more" about Trump's proposal, adding that he was "still forming an opinion on asset allocation."

However, he shared his "current thinking," presenting two possible scenarios.

"Just bitcoin would probably be the best option - simplest, and clear story as successor to gold," Armstrong said, adding that, "if folks wanted more variety, you could do a market cap weighted index of crypto assets to keep it unbiased."

"But probably option #1 is easiest," he concluded.

The Coinbase CEO’s comments come after the White House AI and crypto czar, David Sacks, confirmed that Trump's crypto reserve would comprise bitcoin and other top cryptocurrencies.

"President Trump has announced a crypto strategic reserve consisting of bitcoin and other top cryptocurrencies. This is consistent with his week-one E.O. 14178. President Trump is keeping his promise to make the U.S. the 'Crypto Capital of the World.' More to come at the Summit," Sacks stated in a post on X.

Sacks' words follow Trump's announcement on Thursday, where he disclosed that the reserve might include bitcoin, ether, XRP, solana, and cardano, with scant details revealed.

The White House crypto czar is set to chair the administration's first-ever crypto summit this week, where he is expected to provide further details on the structure and goals of the reserve.

The event could serve to clarify how the U.S. plans to integrate cryptocurrency into its financial framework and what this means for the broader industry. The proposed reserve indicates a potential shift in national financial policy, with implications for regulation and market adoption.
