Coastal Carolina University Receives National Recognition for Supporting Military Students and Their Families

CONWAY, S.C. (WPDE) — Coastal Carolina University has received national recognition for supporting military students and their families.

Coastal Carolina University is showing its commitment to supporting military students and their families.

The university has received silver status among large public universities, as ranked by 'Military Friendly' for 2025-2026.

CCU is home to 75 student veterans, 33 serving students and 518 military-affiliated students.

The university said the schools were evaluated using public data and responses from a proprietary survey.

The ratings are based on six categories, including:

In recognition of this from the Department of Military and Veteran Services, all veterans and veteran-affiliated students who graduate will get a coin and branch-specific stole for commencement.

Over 1,800 schools participated in the survey, with only 830 earning special awards for exceeding.

CCU was designated a Purple Heart University by the Military Order of the Purple Heart in 2017.

They also were the only university in the state to install a permanent Missing Man Chair of Honor at one of the athletic fields.
