Coastal Carolina University earns national recognition for supporting military students and their families

Coastal Carolina University has received national recognition for its outstanding support of military students and their families.

On Monday, CCU announced that they have achieved silver status among large public universities, as ranked by "Military Friendly" for the 2025-2026 academic year. This ranking highlights the university's dedication to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for military members and their dependents.

CCU currently has 75 student veterans, 33 serving students, and 518 military-affiliated students enrolled for the upcoming spring semester, showcasing the significant impact of this initiative.

The schools were evaluated using publicly available data and responses from a proprietary survey, covering various aspects of military support programs and initiatives.

The rankings are based on an evaluation in six categories, namely academic policies and programs, military student support, retention programs and rates, and the administrations' commitment to military students.

In recognition of this achievement from the Department of Military and Veteran Services, all veterans and veteran-affiliated students graduating this year will receive a special coin and branch-specific stole for commencement.

This ranking follows CCU's designation as a Purple Heart University by the Military Order of the Purple Heart in 2017, attesting to the university's deep respect for the sacrifices made by military personnel and their families.

Moreover, CCU is the only university in South Carolina to install a permanent Missing Man Chair of Honor at one of the athletic fields, further highlighting their commitment to honoring service members.

The complete list of participating schools and their rankings can be viewed on the Military Friendly website.
