Circle Announces the Launch of Native USDC on the Sui Blockchain
Oct 09, 2024 at 06:31 am
Circle Mint and Circle APIs now fully support USDC on Sui, allowing developers and users to access USDC liquidity through Sui’s fast and secure infrastructure.
Stablecoin issuer Circle has announced the launch of native USDC on the Sui blockchain, making it accessible on Sui Mainnet without the need for bridging.
Following the integration, Circle Mint and Circle APIs now fully support USDC on Sui, allowing developers and users to access USDC liquidity through Sui’s fast and secure infrastructure.
According to the announcement, the native USDC is issued directly by Circle and is fully compatible with Circle’s ecosystem, including Circle Accounts, Circle Pay, and Poloniex. It also supports a 1:1 redemption for US dollars through wire transfer or ACH from a Circle Account.
Unlike the bridged wUSDC version from Ethereum, native USDC on Sui is optimized for the blockchain’s unique characteristics. Developers are encouraged to integrate native USDC into their projects and migrate from the bridged version where applicable.
The launch of native USDC on Sui is expected to enhance the Web3 experience for developers and users by providing seamless access to a stablecoin that is deeply integrated into the Sui ecosystem.
This integration aligns with Circle's broader strategy to expand USDC's footprint across Web3 and cater to the growing demand for stablecoins in the decentralized economy.
As previously reported by SUI Info, Circle's stablecoin USDC is set to launch on the Sui blockchain in Q1 2023. The integration will enable native USDC to be used within the Sui ecosystem without the need for bridging.
Highlighting the technical aspects of Sui, it's a first-tier blockchain that aims to resolve certain challenges in Web3. One key innovation is parallel transaction execution.
On other platforms that handle smart contracts, transactions are processed one at a time, typically in the sequence they are received. This can result in lengthy processing times. However, the Sui blockchain accepts transactions in parallel.
Moreover, simple operations bypass consensus, enabling them to be completed almost instantaneously. The Sui network also supports smart contracts through the Sui Move language, which is an advanced version of the Move language.
Move is a programming language that's based on the popular Rust language and prioritizes fast and secure transaction execution. The native token of the Sui blockchain is called SUI. Tokens can be used for staking and as payment for gas fees in the Sui PoS network.
