KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs are trying to become the first team to win three straight Super Bowls when they face the Philadelphia Eagles in the Superdome on Sunday.
Super Bowl 59 is a rematch of the 2018 game, which the Eagles won 41-33. The Chiefs have won the last two Super Bowls, beating the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 in 2020 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-9 last year.
The Chiefs are favored by 1 1/2 points, but the Eagles have been the more impressive team this season. They went 14-3 and earned the No. 1 seed in the NFC, while the Chiefs went 12-5 and had to win three road games to reach the Super Bowl.
The Eagles also have the NFL’s best pass rush, led by Haason Reddick and Josh Sweat. They will be facing a Chiefs offensive line that has been banged up all season.
But the Chiefs have Patrick Mahomes, who is widely considered to be the best quarterback in the NFL. Mahomes has thrown for 5,250 yards, 41 touchdowns and 12 interceptions this season, and he has also rushed for 358 yards and four TDs.
The Eagles will counter with Jalen Hurts, who had a breakout season in 2022. Hurts threw for 3,701 yards, 22 TDs and six interceptions, and he also rushed for 760 yards and 13 TDs.
The Super Bowl is scheduled to kick off at 6:30 p.m. ET and will be televised by Fox.
