Charles Hoskinson Unveils Plans for a Massive Airdrop Targeting 37 Million Users Across 8 Blockchains

Apr 12, 2025 at 01:04 am

This initiative aims to reach approximately 37 million users across eight prominent blockchains, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, Solana, Binance Smart Chain, Avalanche and Polygon.

During the recent Paris Blockchain Week on April 9, Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson announced plans for a major airdrop associated with the Midnight sidechain project.

The initiative aims to reach around 37 million users across eight prominent blockchains, specifically Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, Solana, Binance Smart Chain, Avalanche, and Polygon.

The Midnight project is designed to enhance user privacy using zero-knowledge proofs, enabling seamless interaction between different blockchains without the need for token conversion, a capability Hoskinson termed "chain abstraction."

The upcoming airdrop will distribute two types of tokens: the governance token, NIGHT, and the privacy transaction token, DUST. In contrast to typical airdrops that target early funders and select users, the Midnight airdrop will span a much broader audience.

In his keynote speech, Hoskinson also discussed the evolution of blockchain technology, highlighting four distinct phases.

The first phase, epitomized by Bitcoin, focused on decentralization. The second phase, brought forth by Ethereum, introduced smart contracts—self-executing programs that operate when specific conditions are met.

The third phase concentrated on scalability and interoperability, aiming to increase transaction throughput and facilitate network interactions.

According to Hoskinson, blockchain technology is now entering its fourth phase, which prioritizes privacy. This shift reflects a growing concern for user confidentiality in the rapidly changing digital landscape.
