Cardi B might have promoted a new memecoin on X (formerly Twitter) this morning, and many of her fans are left wondering if the post was really from her or if her account had been hacked.
The A-list celebrity rapper posted about a new memecoin called “WAP,” named after her hit song with Megan Thee Stallion, on Friday, suggesting that her fans could get some tokens for free.
However, the post also included a link to a website and a wallet address, which prompted PecKShield to issue a warning a few moments later.
The blockchain security firm stated that people should be careful about interacting with the links and the wallet address shared in the X post, as it could be tied to a scam.
But the high-quality video posted and the fact that Cardi B’s other social media accounts are still operating normally also led some people to think she might be behind the promotion after all.
Moreover, this post has stayed up for more than 10 hours. Usually, when an event like this happens, the post is removed quickly, and the celebrity uses their other social media accounts to raise the alarm that they have been hacked. But as of now, Cardi B hasn’t made any statement.
However, crypto investigator Wazz revealed that the wallet address shared has been linked to multiple rug scams. He also dismissed the idea that Cardi B’s X account had been hacked and suggested it was a planned work.
Meanwhile, the WAP token is gaining traction. At the time of writing, the token is trading for $0.0002015, with a market cap of around $21 million according to Dexscreener.
