Bybit Report Highlights Impending Bitcoin Supply Crisis After 2024 Halving
Apr 16, 2024 at 09:10 pm
Bybit's recent report predicts a significant decrease in Bitcoin's supply on exchanges within nine months due to the upcoming halving. The report highlights the potential for increased scarcity and a doubling of Bitcoin's Stock-to-Flow ratio, leading to an acceleration of institutional adoption and a potential shift in the cryptocurrency landscape.

Bybit Report Illuminates Impending Bitcoin Supply Exhaustion and Intensifying Scarcity Post-Halving in April 2024

Bybit, a prominent cryptocurrency exchange renowned for its substantial trading volume, has recently released an in-depth report that sheds light on the impending supply constraints of Bitcoin.
Anticipated Bitcoin Halving to Exacerbate Bitcoin Scarcity
The report meticulously analyzes the market dynamics surrounding Bitcoin and concludes that the availability of Bitcoin on exchanges is projected to dwindle significantly within the next nine months due to the forthcoming Bitcoin halving event. This halving event, scheduled for April 2024, will effectively reduce the supply generation of Bitcoin by 50%.
Rapid Depletion of Bitcoin Reserves on Centralized Exchanges
The report highlights that all centralized exchanges are experiencing a precipitous decline in their Bitcoin reserves. "Bitcoin reserves in all centralized exchanges have been depleting faster," the report states. "With only 2 million bitcoins remaining, if we assume a daily inflow of $500 million to Bitcoin Spot ETFs, the equivalent of around 7,142 bitcoins will leave exchange reserves daily, suggesting that it will only take nine months to consume all of the remaining reserves."
Post-Halving Scarcity to Surge Dramatically
The scarcity of Bitcoin is anticipated to intensify post-halving. The report employs the Stock-to-Flow (S2F) ratio, which is calculated by dividing the circulating supply of a commodity by its annual production, as a gauge of scarcity.
"Bitcoin's S2F ratio is around 56 before the upcoming halving, while gold is 60," the report notes. "After the halving in April 2024, Bitcoin's S2F ratio is projected to double to 112."
Institutional Investors Strategically Position for Halving
Institutional investors, fully aware of these impending developments, have already initiated strategic positioning for the halving event. This proactive approach became particularly evident following the U.S. approval of Bitcoin Spot ETFs.
"Bitcoin is becoming the safest investment choice even for the most sophisticated investors in the crypto field," the report asserts. "The price correlation between Bitcoin and the rest of cryptocurrency has been consistently high, and investment in Bitcoin has also been regarded as the cryptocurrency with the lowest beta."
Implications for Market Scarcity and Investment Strategy
The evolving dynamic in Bitcoin's supply and its implications for market scarcity are of paramount importance to both investors and market observers alike. As Bitcoin becomes increasingly scarce, its allure as a 'digital gold' is poised to amplify, potentially impacting its valuation and investment strategy across the cryptocurrency landscape.
The findings of Bybit's report serve as a crucial indicator for both current and prospective investors, suggesting that strategic adjustments may be prudent to accommodate the impending supply dynamics.
"Each Bitcoin halving sharpens the narrative of Bitcoin as not just a currency, but a scarce digital asset, akin to digital gold," affirmed Ben Joe, Co-Founder and CEO of Bybit. "This upcoming halving in 2024 will thrust Bitcoin into an era of unprecedented scarcity, making it twice as rare as gold."
