2020 Brexit 50p coin sells for £9900 on eBay

output: A silver 50p coin, part of a collection to mark Britain's departure from the EU, has been put up for sale on eBay for £7,000.

The coin, which was first introduced by Sajid Javid in 2020, bears the inscription “Peace, prosperity and friendship with all nations” and the date of January 31.

It is also one of only 750 to feature the special inscription, and was originally produced in advance of the original departure date of October 31.

However, due to the delay in Brexit, around a million coins had to be melted down with the metal put aside until a new date was confirmed.

The production of the coins was originally ordered by Mr Javid in his role as Chancellor of the Exchequer.

The Royal Mint also introduced gold commemorative coins, which were priced at £945, and sold out due to demand.

Those who missed out on the limited-edition coins could buy them on eBay for a much higher price.

A coin from the collection went on sale for £6,500 in March 2023.

The coin, which was part of a set of five 50p coins, sold for more than double its original price.

The seller, who was based in Herefordshire, described the item in their listing as a “must-have” for any British coin enthusiast and said it would be a “great addition” to any collection.

The coin was in “excellent condition”, with seller adding: “don't miss out on owning an important piece of history”.

In 2024, another Brexit commemorative coin was put on eBay by a Herefordshire seller, but this time the price tag was even higher - £9000.

The listing, which has since been deleted from eBay, saw the seller open to offers on the Royal Mint coin, with the hope that they could “work out a deal”.
