When will the BNB Smart Chain Pascal hard fork upgrade start? Is the mainnet and testnet time the same?

Feb 21, 2025 at 05:14 pm

BNB Smart Chain will be upgraded on February 25, the main network will be upgraded in mid-March, and there will be subsequent upgrades in April and June, bringing various functions improvements.

On February 21, BNB Chain official news revealed that BNB Smart Chain will undergo a Pascal hard fork upgrade. For users, the most concerned thing is the upgrade time.

The test network upgrade is planned to be implemented on February 25, 2025. The determination of this time point is the result of the technical team after multiple rounds of evaluation and preparation. Upgrading the test network at this time can lay the foundation for subsequent main network upgrades.
As the leading test field for the main network, the test network can lead to the development team to discover potential problems in advance. For example, run the new smart contract wallet support and secure encryption upgrade functions in the test network to detect whether it is stable.
The main network upgrade is scheduled to be in mid-March 2025. Unlike the test network time, this is because the main network carries a large number of actual business and user assets and requires more full preparation.
Before upgrading the main network, the technical team needs to fix and optimize the feedback issues after upgrading the test network. At the same time, multiple simulation drills must be conducted on the main network upgrade process to ensure that everything is foolproof.
The upgrade time of the test network and the main network is different, and there are also risk assessment considerations. There is a problem with the test network and the impact range is relatively small. Once the main network fails, it may lead to serious economic losses and user trust crisis.
The native smart contract wallet support function in Pascal hard fork upgrade is very critical. Through the integrated EIP-7702, users can achieve multi-signature support when using wallets on BNB Smart Chain in the future, which greatly improves the security of assets.
The spending limiting feature will also provide users with more convenience. Users can set the upper limit of assets based on their own needs to avoid unnecessary losses. The batch trading function can improve transaction efficiency and save time and handling fees.
Secure encryption upgrades are equally important. The introduction of BEP - 439 (EIP - 2537) supports BLS12 - 381 curve encryption operations, which can enhance the encryption strength of BNB Smart Chain and resist more potential security threats.
After the Pascal hard fork, the BNB Chain team also plans to perform a Lorentz upgrade in April 2025 and a Maxwell upgrade in June 2025. These two upgrades will further improve the performance of BNB Smart Chain.
When Lorentz is upgraded, the block interval will drop to 1.5 seconds. This means that the speed of transaction confirmation will be greatly improved, and the waiting time will be shorter when users conduct transfers, transactions and other operations.
After Maxwell is upgraded, the block interval will be further reduced to 0.75 seconds. By then, BNB Smart Chain's transaction processing capabilities will reach a new level and can better meet the needs of users.
Every upgrade requires careful preparation of the technical team. From code writing, functional testing to online deployment, every link needs to be strictly controlled to ensure the smooth progress of the upgrade.
For ordinary users, although there is no need to understand the technical details in depth, they need to pay attention to the upgrade time. During the main network upgrade, there may be a brief service interruption, and users should prepare in advance.
For developers, Pascal hard fork upgrades bring new opportunities and challenges. New features and features require developers to re-learn and adapt to in order to develop better applications.
With the continuous development of blockchain technology, BNB Smart Chain maintains competitiveness through continuous upgrading. In the future, it is expected to occupy a more important position in the global blockchain market.
