BlackRock Holds 567,000 BTC (BTC) Valued at $47.8 Billion

Mar 17, 2025 at 06:55 pm

YEREVAN (CoinChapter.com) — BlackRock, the largest asset manager with $11.6 trillion in assets under management, now holds 567,000 Bitcoin (BTC)

BlackRock Holds 567,000 BTC (BTC) Valued at $47.8 Billion

Asset management giant BlackRock, Inc. (NYSE:BLK) continues to expand its cryptocurrency holdings, with its latest purchase taking place on March 14.

According to blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence, BlackRock now holds 567,000 Bitcoin (BTC), valued at $47.8 billion, making it one of the largest institutional holders of BTC.

The most recent purchase saw 268 BTC, worth $22 million, being transferred from a Coinbase Prime (CRYPTO:COIN) wallet to the iShares Bitcoin ETF (IBIT) wallet.

This follows previous reports of BlackRock increasing its crypto holdings despite market fluctuations. In addition to Bitcoin, BlackRock holds 1.2 million Ether (ETH), valued at $2.3 billion, along with 70 million USDC stablecoins and a range of altcoins.

Bitcoin ETF Sees Billions In Institutional Investments

The Bitcoin ETF market has been a crucial channel for institutional investors to gain access to cryptocurrency. BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin ETF (IBIT) has seen large inflows, enabling investors to gain exposure to Bitcoin without the complexities of direct custody.

Bitcoin ETFs have also been one of the fastest-growing investment products, bringing significant liquidity to the crypto market. With its ETF among the largest, BlackRock’s actions directly influence the overall movement of crypto assets in traditional financial markets.

Bitcoin ETF Outflows Increase In 2025

Despite earlier inflows, crypto ETFs recorded four weeks of consecutive outflows from February to early March 2025. According to data from digital asset management firm CoinShares, outflows totaled $4.75 billion.

The week of March 9 saw a withdrawal of $876 million, with BlackRock’s IBIT alone experiencing an outflow of $193 million. Across all Bitcoin ETFs, month-to-date outflows reached $756 million.

The sustained trade war and macroeconomic uncertainty contributed to the institutional investors pulling back from crypto investments.

BlackRock Includes Bitcoin ETF In Model Portfolios

In February 2025, BlackRock added IBIT to its model portfolios, which offer preset investment plans with a mix of assets. These portfolios provide exposure to Bitcoin ETFs, allowing investors to participate in the crypto market without managing digital assets directly.

Model portfolios are used by asset managers to offer diversified investments to clients. The addition of IBIT means Bitcoin is now part of BlackRock’s portfolio strategy, increasing its presence in institutional investments.
