Bitget, a premier cryptocurrency trading platform, has made significant changes to its native token, Bitget Token (BGB). These include a whitepaper update, the introduction of quarterly token repurchase and destruction, and the execution of the first token burning. These initiatives are designed to enhance the token's usability, provide greater transparency, and promote the ecosystem in which Bitget operates for the long term.
Beginning January 2025, the gas fees of several popular blockchains, such as Ethereum, Solana, BNB Chain, and Polygon, will be payable in BGB using Bitget Wallet. Customers can choose BGB, USDT, or USDC as the preferred payment method, aiming to simplify and reduce the cost of the process. The wallet also includes a Reward Center, where users can earn gas vouchers for performing simple tasks within the ecosystem, further increasing the utility of the wallet.
The first batch of BGB tokens has been burned, reducing the total supply. Subsequent token burnings will occur every three months, with 20% of the exchange and wallet earnings being used to purchase and burn the tokens. These profits are derived from spot, contract, leverage, swap, and Non-Fungible Token (NFT) transaction fees. The tokens will be transferred to a burn address, and the company will provide details of the transactions after each burn.
Furthermore, Bitget anticipates that these measures will generate demand for BGB, ultimately strengthening its position as a fundamental asset in cryptocurrency. Following the integration of the Bitget Wallet Token (BWB), the multipurpose BGB token will function as a utility token within the Bitget ecosystem.
