Cryptocurrency mining executives are backing two Republican candidates with new advertisements.
The political action committee (PAC) Bitcoin Voter PAC posted an ad on Monday, October 21, in support of Texas Senator Ted Cruz, up for re-election against Democratic candidate Colin Allred. The ad highlights Cruz's understanding of “the embrace of Bitcoin,” without mentioning Allred's policies.
Cruz received support from the Texas Blockchain Council (TBC) in August, with Chairman Lee Bratcher stating Cruz understands "Bitcoin as a tool for securing freedom and mining as a tool for grid stability."
The PAC also funded an advertisement in Pennsylvania supporting Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Board members of the Bitcoin Voter Project come from Marathon Digital Holdings, CleanSpark, and Riot Platforms. According to Federal Election Commission records, as of September 30, the organization had not submitted any donations or expenditures for the 2024 elections.
Early voting in Texas began on October 21. Many polls in October show Cruz slightly leading Allred in Texas.
Cointelegraph reached out to Bitcoin Voter PAC, but had not received a response at the time of publication.
