Bitcoin price today, 22 March, has reached the USD 84,350 mark as of 17:05 IST. BTC price has been fluctuating for weeks without making a significant jump or decline. The rise and fall of cryptocurrency is amid the ongoing economic uncertainties and tariffs imposed by Donald Trump. Globally, the sentiment of investors has been affected due to many factors.
Recently, there has been a surge in interest regarding VPA (Virtual Private Address) and UPI ID (Unified Payments Interface Identifier). Both terms are used interchangeably to identify a user's account when making or receiving payments through UPI apps such as PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm and BHIM.
If you're new to the world of UPI and scanning QR codes to pay at street vendors has left you baffled, then this article will guide you through the basics of UPI and VPA.
What Is VPA in UPI?
VPA stands for Virtual Private Address. It is a unique ID assigned to a user's bank account for making and receiving UPI payments. UPI is an initiative of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to facilitate quick, safe and efficient digital payments in the country.
The UPI ecosystem in India is home to many popular apps such as PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, BHIM and Mobikwik, among others. All these apps use the same UPI network in the backend to route payments between users.
UPI and VPA: Same or Different?
Yes, UPI ID and VPA are the same. It's the user's unique ID in the UPI ecosystem. It is typically an email address or mobile phone number. When you add a bank account to any UPI app, you provide your mobile number and then set a 4-digit UPI PIN to secure your account.
How To Find Your UPI VPA
To find your UPI VPA, follow these steps:
1. Open any UPI app on your smartphone.
2. Tap on the 'Profile' or 'Me' icon, usually present in the bottom right corner of the app.
3. You will see your UPI ID or VPA displayed in this section.
If you have multiple UPI apps linked to different bank accounts, you will see the VPA and bank account details for each app.
If you forget your UPI PIN, you can reset it through the app using the registered mobile number or email ID.
If you face any issues with UPI payments or fraud, you can contact your bank or the UPI complaint helpline number which is 1800 123 7348.
If you wish to disable or remove a UPI app from your device, you can do so by following the steps mentioned in the app.
