Bitcoin (BTC) has taken a significant step forward in its development with the release of Bitcoin Core v29.0rc2. This update introduces several performance, security, and network efficiency improvements.
Following v28.0, which was released in October, v29.0rc2 brings several changes to the P2P network, mempool policy, and mining processes. It also includes new RPs and updated REST APIs.
One major addition is “ephemeral dust”. This allows dust outputs in zero-fee transactions. To spend unconfirmed outputs, the dust must be spent together with other outputs in a single transaction package. This is part of the broader mempool and mining adjustments aimed at improving efficiency.
A new release candidate of Bitcoin Core, v29.0rc2, is available for testing. This is a new major release, and follows v28.0. Release announcement: https://t.co/x4eOYAhBHd It is available from: https://t.co/cf2uXD7bas

This update also brings several changes to the Bitcoin wallet. It has seen GUI improvements and the build system has been transitioned from Autotools to CMake, with a required minimum CMake version of 3.22.
The update introduces new low-level tools, utilities, and updated tests, along with improved dependencies. Additionally, a new tool has been added that converts a compact-serialized UTXO snapshot into an SQLite3 database.
With these changes, Bitcoin Core v29.0rc2 will enhance the overall network security and user experience. As Bitcoin continues to evolve, this release strengthens its position as the leading cryptocurrency, focusing on scalability and security.
