Bitcoin ATMs are making their way into some Texas convenience stores.
Customers heading into a convenience store in Texas may soon be able to find a Bitcoin ATM among the usual soda fountain, snacks and grab-and-go items, thanks to a new partnership announced last week.
Chicago-based digital currency platform company CoinFlip announced in a press release Thursday that it's working with Fort Worth-based Yesway to install 45 Bitcoin ATMs in several of its Yesway and Allsup's stores across five states. Yesway has locations throughout the Midwest and Southwest, and it's putting the kiosks in stores in Iowa, New Mexico, South Dakota, Texas and Wyoming.
"When seeking new expansion locations, we look for partners who share our operating values and provide safe, clean, and quality locations for customers to use our kiosks," said CoinFlip Group VP of Global Kiosks and International Josh Allen, in a press release. "Yesway embodies this customer- and community-first ethos and we could not be prouder to launch our partnership with them in these five states."
In the Lone Star State, according to CoinFlip's Bitcoin ATM locator, you can currently find the kiosks in Abilene, Amarillo, Lubbock, San Angelo and other locations mostly in north and central Texas.
"These are our first locations to kick off our partnership and we look forward to the opportunity to expand even further across the state," Allen told the Houston Chronicle in a statement.
CoinFlip was founded in 2015. The company has more than 5,000 Bitcoin kiosks worldwide, including in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Italy, Mexico, Panama, New Zealand and South Africa. Currently in Texas, its kiosks allow customers to convert a minimum of $20 in cash to either Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, Stellar Lumens, Chainlink or XRP. USD Coin, Tether and PAX Gold are not available in Texas. CoinFlip also requires users to have an app called CoinFlip Wallet, which acts as a cryptocurrency bank account, and a smartphone, which receives a receipt of transaction.
"We look forward to introducing CoinFlip to our customers seeking to purchase Bitcoin and seven other, different, cryptocurrencies,” said Yesway Senior Manager of Merchandising and Procurement Alan Adato, in the release. "As one of the world's largest operators of cryptocurrency kiosks, CoinFlip will provide our Yesway and Allsup's customers the convenience of a seamless experience for buying or selling digital currencies."
