Binance's "Vote to Delist" Program Could See Zcash (ZEC) Get the Axe
Apr 16, 2025 at 08:45 am
Zcash (ZEC), an early privacy-focused cryptocurrency, faces potential delisting from Binance. Its inclusion in the exchange's second "Vote to Delist" program triggered strong community backlash and renewed discussion about privacy's role in crypto.
Earlier this year, when Binance included Zcash (ZEC) in its second “Vote to Delist” program, it sparked a strong reaction from the cryptocurrency community.
The inclusion of the early privacy-focused cryptocurrency in the exchange’s decision was no small matter. It had implications for the future of digital assets and the values they embody.
After Binance announced the second batch of tokens for its delisting program, several community members expressed surprise at Zcash’s inclusion.
The exchange explained that it would be internally assessing the tokens based on several factors, including liquidity and development activity. These tokens would remain listed until April 16, 2025, when Binance’s final decision would be made.
However, even the vote itself had implications. As Gemini co-founder Tyler Winklevoss pointed out, the fact that Binance was putting a privacy-focused token to a vote while other exchanges continued to list it raised questions about priorities.
Crypto advocate Zooko went a step further, tagging Binance CEO Richard Teng and arguing that Zcash’s inclusion was ironic.
He highlighted Zcash’s contribution of zk-SNARKs, a technology that began with a $40 million grant from the U.S. government. This technology is now used in many blockchain applications, including Binance itself.
Moreover, Zcash’s founders had experience in cryptography and were focused on creating useful privacy technology that could stand the test of time, in contrast to tokens that quickly lose relevance.
Zcash is privacy technology that protects human rights. I hope @binance does not delist it. Zcash is one of the most important and underrated cryptos in the world right now.

In a world increasingly focused on surveillance and the erosion of privacy, Zcash stands out for offering an alternative. Its token, ZEC, allows for transactions that are nearly impossible to trace, a stark contrast to the transparent and easily trackable nature of most cryptocurrencies.
In an age where digital rights are becoming increasingly crucial, Zcash provides a haven for those seeking to maintain control over their own financial data.
As one crypto enthusiast puts it, in a world where Coinbase, Gemini, and Kraken continue to list ZEC, Binance appears to be focused on different values. A statement from Binance on April 1, 2025, will decide Zcash’s fate on the exchange.
