This week, blockchain gaming project Axie Infinity teased its upcoming massively multiplayer online (MMO) video game in the game's universe. Finally, a new report showed that NFT trading volumes have tumbled by 63% since December.
Axie Infinity teases new Web3 game as NFT outlook turns positive
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) dropped probes into major NFT projects, and a Trump-owned company registered trademarks for an NFT marketplace. In other news, Axie Infinity developer Sky Mavis gave a sneak peek of the next chapter of the game.
Highlighting that the project continues to provide true asset ownership to its players, the team at Axie Infinity unveiled a trailer for Atia’s Legacy, a massively multiplayer online (MMO) video game set in the Axie universe.
The new development comes as the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) dropped probes into major NFT projects. In addition, a Trump-owned company registered trademarks for an NFT marketplace.
These are promising updates because they may further unlock the power of tokens, Axie Infinity developer Sky Mavis co-founder Jeffrey Zirlin told Cointelegraph in an email.
The Burning Coin LLC, a company linked to former US President Donald Trump, applied to register trademarks for an NFT marketplace. The move suggests that Trump might be venturing into the Web3 space.
The trademarks cover a broad range of services related to NFTs, including a platform for users to buy, sell and trade digital collectibles.
The filings with the US Patent and Trademark Office were spotted by legal technology company Legal Compass and reported by Variety.
According to the filings, the trademarks will be used for a "non-fungible token marketplace"; "cryptocurrency trading services"; and a "service provider featuring technology that enables users to mint and manage digital tokens in a blockchain".
The Burning Coin LLC also applied to register trademarks for food and beverage services; and planning, organizing and hosting social events.
The trademarks are still pending approval.

A smartwatch face design firm sued a luxury brand for allegedly infringing on its patent technology for displaying NFTs on smartwatches.
Smartwatch face design firm Watch Skins sued luxury fashion giant LVMH and accused it of patent infringement.
The company, which claims to have developed a system that lets users display verified NFTs on smartwatches, sued LVMH and one of its brands, TAG Heuer, over a smartwatch that allegedly infringes on its patents.
In a complaint filed on Monday with the US District Court for the Central District of California, and viewed by Cointelegraph, Watch Skins alleged that TAG Heuer’s smartwatch unlawfully uses its patented NFT display technology.
The company further claimed that TAG Heuer encouraged its users to infringe on the patents by providing instructions in its user manual and on its website on how to display NFTs on the smartwatch.
The lawsuit follows a report in December 2024 by TechCrunch, which said that LVMH was planning to launch an NFT marketplace in 2025.
According to the report, LVMH was developing the marketplace in partnership with fashion resale platform Vestiaire Collective. The marketplace would reportedly sell digital collectibles from LVMH’s fashion and cosmetic brands, such as Louis Vuitton and Dior.
The lawsuit arises from a patent that Watch Skins obtained in December 2023 for a system and method for displaying non-fungible tokens on a wristwatch.
The patent describes a system that allows users to select an NFT from a digital wallet and display it on the smartwatch face. The system would also verify the authenticity of the NFT and prevent the display of fraudulent tokens.
Another patent, obtained in January 2024, relates to a system for managing multiple NFTs on a smartwatch.
This patent describes a system that allows users to create a collection of NFTs and switch between them on the smartwatch face. The system would also provide users with information about the NFTs in the collection, such as the token ID and the name of the collection.
Watch Skins is seeking a trial by jury and demands compensation for lost royalties and profit and a court order to prevent LVMH and its brands from further infringing on its patents.
The company is also requesting an injunction to prevent the continuing sale of the allegedly infringing smartwatch.
"We are disappointed by this lawsuit, which we believe to be without merit," an LVMH spokesperson told Cointelegraph. "We will vigorously defend ourselves against these claims."
