Avail's Data Availability Solution Embraces Ethereum Layer-2 Powerhouses

Apr 25, 2024 at 09:00 pm

Avail, a blockchain data availability (DA) project, announced the integration of its Avail DA solution with five major Ethereum layer-2 networks: Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, StarkWare, and ZkSync. This integration will allow users of these networks to leverage Avail's DA services, which provide a cost-effective and efficient way to store large amounts of transaction data. Avail's DA solution is expected to go live soon and will be accompanied by additional products like Nexus and Avail Fusion.

Avail Data Availability Solution Integrated by Ethereum Layer-2 Powerhouses

Austin, Texas, April 25, 2024 – Avail, a blockchain project focused on data availability (DA), has announced a significant milestone in integrating its DA solution with five major layer-2 networks in the Ethereum ecosystem: Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, StarkWare, and zkSync.

This integration enables users on these networks to seamlessly opt in or out of using Avail DA for storing the immense data generated from their transactions. DA solutions have emerged as an essential component for rollup networks, offering a cost-effective and high-speed alternative to storing data on the main Ethereum blockchain.

Avail has gained considerable traction within the DA realm, alongside other projects like Celestia and Eigenlayer's EigenDA. While Avail's DA remains in testnet, Co-founder Anurag Arjun anticipates its imminent launch.

Token Airdrop for Rollup Users

In a testament to the value Avail places on its rollup integrations, the project recently announced its plans for a token airdrop. Users of these rollups will be among those eligible to receive the AVAIL token.

Expanding Product Suite

Avail's commitment to innovation extends beyond DA. In February, the project unveiled two additional core products in its roadmap:

  • Nexus: A layer that connects different rollups within the Avail ecosystem, akin to Polygon's AggLayer.
  • Avail Fusion: A mechanism to borrow the security of prominent crypto assets like Ether (ETH) and Bitcoin (BTC) and contribute it to Avail's security, similar to EigenLayer.

"Our DA solution is production-ready and nearing its launch, while Nexus is still under development," Arjun explained in an interview with CoinDesk. "We're actively collaborating with these teams to enhance the integration of the Nexus component."

The Significance of Data Availability

DA plays a crucial role in the functioning of rollup networks, which process transactions off-chain and periodically bundle them into batches that are stored on the main Ethereum blockchain. This bundling process significantly reduces transaction fees and enhances throughput.

However, rollups require mechanisms to ensure the availability of data from these bundled transactions. DA solutions like Avail provide a decentralized storage infrastructure for this data, allowing rollup users to verify the validity of transactions without the need to store all the raw data themselves.

About Avail

Avail is a blockchain project dedicated to building scalable and secure data availability solutions for decentralized applications. Founded by Anurag Arjun and Prabal Banarjee, Avail aims to bridge the gap between layer-1 and layer-2 networks and enable the development of a truly decentralized and efficient blockchain ecosystem.
