AR.IO, a new permanent cloud storage network based on Arweave, officially launched its mainnet and token generation event (TGE).

Web3 data storage network AR.IO has officially launched its mainnet and token generation event (TGE). The project, which began as ArDrive, aims to provide a decentralized and permanent cloud storage solution.
The AR.IO network, which features the main application ArDrive, is designed to compete with centralized cloud giants like Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services, but with a Web3 twist. The project joins other initiatives like Impossible Cloud and Filecoin in offering more secure and durable alternatives to centralized services.
AR.IO began its journey in 2022 when ArDrive secured over $17 million in funding to develop the blockchain-based network. Its investors include Blockchain Capital, Forward Research (Arweave’s R&D incubator), Foresight Ventures, and Ryze Labs. This funding has enabled AR.IO to build infrastructure that ensures the permanence of stored data, without relying on centralized servers.
As part of its launch, AR.IO has also introduced its native token, ARIO, with a fixed total supply of one billion tokens. The tokens will be distributed as follows: 17.08% to the core team and advisors, 20.29% to support early development and infrastructure, 17.5% allocated for early users, and 28.63% for fostering strategic partnerships and collaborations.
Additionally, the ARIO token will be used to manage ArNS smart domains, which offer a permanent blockchain-native identity for apps, data, and digital ownership. By simplifying access to permanent data storage and making blockchain technology more accessible, AR.IO aims to provide an innovative solution to the problems encountered with traditional cloud storage.
