Aptos (APT) token price surged 17% on Monday morning, reaching $6.45 amid a “community takeover” led by social media personality BuzzlamicJihad. The price movement marks a recovery from January's lows, when APT dropped to $5.50.
BuzzlamicJihad, known for his X (formerly Twitter) posts about Aptos, began rallying support for the blockchain in October 2024. Initially focusing on technical aspects, he highlighted the ease of writing smart contracts on Aptos compared to rival blockchain Sui.
By December, BuzzlamicJihad began making bold predictions about Aptos, claiming it would surpass XRP in market value and achieve the highest stablecoin supply among all chains in 2025. His posts also featured memes and catchphrases, notably “Aptos lookin’ good here,” which became a rallying cry among crypto traders.
This community movement, gaining momentum through memes and catchphrases, differs from typical community takeovers (CTOs) in the crypto space. Usually occurring after project developers abandon their creations, Aptos has an active development team and corporate structure.
Despite these differences, the CTO has gained traction among crypto influencers, who amplify BuzzlamicJihad's message and create a snowball effect of social media engagement around the Aptos project.
Another unique aspect of this community movement is its similarity to other crypto cultural phenomena in its use of layered irony and inside jokes, mirroring the communication style of successful NFT projects like Milady Maker.
The Aptos community Telegram channel showcases this activity, with members communicating in a distinctive way that blends humor and market commentary. When asked about the movement's nature, one Telegram admin, known as Stef, simply described it as “just some lads with a dream.”
Meanwhile, new Aptos CEO Avery Ching has acknowledged the community movement, notably referring to BuzzlamicJihad as the “GOAT” (greatest of all time) in social media interactions. This recognition from leadership has further energized the community.
