AI16z Rebrands as ElizaOS After Request From Andreessen Horowitz (a16z)

Venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, also known as a16z, has prompted a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) named AI16z to change its name.

The request was disclosed by Chris Dixon, managing partner at a16z Crypto, in the latest episode of Unchained.

“We were not connected with AI16z,” Dixon said. “I believe they are in the process of changing it. We've asked them to. It just was creating a little bit of confusion.”

A spokesperson for a16z later clarified via email that by “we,” he meant a16z, not a16z crypto.

The ai16z project was created as a parody of a16z, and it operates on Solana. It utilizes a unique governance model that incorporates AI and community participation.

As per the project’s Discord channel, ai16z will now be known as ElizaOS.

“As we continue to expand across multiple countries, develop our core technology, and foster an incredible community of builders, we are implementing a comprehensive rebranding initiative to ElizaOS,” an announcement reads, adding that the $ai16z ticker will remain “for now, with future changes to be voted on by the community when our DAO voting module launches.”

Walters, the founder of Eliza Labs, declined to comment on the name change beyond what was stated in the Discord announcement, including whether it was made at the request of a16z.

The project’s Discord announcement also stated that the team has notified relevant exchanges, as the AI16Z token is listed on several centralized exchanges including Bybit, Bitget, Gate.io, and KuCoin.

According to CoinGecko, the AI16Z token opened the year trading at a price of 2 cents and hit an all-time high of $6.50 in February.

However, the token has since declined 91% from its peak and trades at 58 cents at the time of writing. Despite the decline, the token has still appreciated over 2,800% since its launch.
