Crypto whales appear to be shifting their strategies as they accumulate altcoins in the second week of December 2024. Here are some of the top altcoins that experienced whale accumulation, according to BeInCrypto’s analysis:
Aave (AAVE): AAVE, the token of the decentralized lending and borrowing platform, experienced a significant increase in large holder netflow, according to IntoTheBlock. This metric, which tracks whale activity, rose from around 4,000 on December 11 to over 87,000 by December 12. This buying activity, which totals about $35 million at the altcoin’s current price, contributed to AAVE's 42% price increase in the past seven days.
Virtuals Protocol (VIRTUAL): VIRTUAL, the native token of the AI protocol built on the Base chain, also saw strong accumulation by crypto whales this week. Santiment data shows that addresses holding between 100 million and 1 billion VIRTUAL tokens massively increased their holdings. For example, on December 12, the balance held by these addresses was 145,000 tokens, which increased to 6.44 million tokens on December 13. This buying activity, which amounts to about 6.30 million VIRTUAL tokens, contributed to the altcoin's new all-time high and drove its trading volume to over $220 million.
Ondo (ONDO): ONDO, the token with fundamentals in Real World Assets (RWA) tokenization, also experienced whale accumulation this week. On-chain data from IntoTheBlock showed that whales' accumulation of ONDO increased by 7.34 million. This buying pressure contributed to ONDO's price gain of 17% this week.
