Transaction ID (TXID)

What Is a Transaction ID (TXID)?

A transaction ID (TXID) is the unique identification number of each blockchain transaction. It is also sometimes called transaction hash and is a string of letters and numbers that every blockchain transaction possesses. This unique identifier is the double SHA-256 hash of a transaction.

With a transaction ID, you can find the transaction information, such as the amount sent, the transfer date, the sending and receiving address and the number of network confirmations on a block explorer.

Each time you sign a transaction, you sign the transaction ID (TXID), ensuring that any change to the transaction changes the transaction ID as well and, thus, renders the signature invalid.

The transaction ID is not necessarily a hash of the entire transaction. Signatures can be changed after having been created, sometimes even without being invalidated. This transaction malleability, which allowed a TXID to change after the transaction was signed, was resolved with the SegWit update to Bitcoin.

How Do I Find My Transaction ID (TXID)?

You can look up the TXID of any transaction with a few easy steps:

  1. Open a block explorer like etherscan.com, blockchain.com, blockchair.com or others.

  2. Sign in with your wallet ID.

  3. In the list of executed transactions, you will find the transaction IDs attached.

  4. Click on the transaction ID.

  5. You will see the Transaction ID (TXID) displayed with all the details of the transaction.

How Do I Create a TXID?

You create a transaction ID by hashing the transaction data twice through the SHA-256 hash function.

Is It Safe to Share the Transaction ID?

The transaction ID (TXID) does not disclose any personal information and is safe to share. On public blockchains, the information displayed is:

  • The amount transferred.

  • The date of the transfer.

  • The sender and recipient wallet address.

How Does a Transaction ID (TXID) Look Like?

A TXID is a unique random alphanumeric string. It consists of a random set of letters and numbers, for example:

0xf47cdb4dd7fbc0cc8fb5609963cc46da2afba44c2a353aab007fb6c7af765c9c

What Do You Do With the Transaction Hash?

You can look up your transaction on a block explorer by copying and pasting the TXID. You can also share the transaction information with people. Search the transaction hash on a block explorer to see the information about the transaction, like the date, the amount and the sender and receiver address.

Is Signature a TXID?

Signature is synonymous with transaction ID (TXID) and transaction hash (TX hash). Ethereum and other EVM-compatible blockchains use the terms transaction ID and transaction hash. On the Solana blockchain, the same is known as the signature.

Where Can I Find the Transaction ID (TXID) on Binance?

You can find a Transaction ID (TXID) on Binance with the following steps:

  1. Log in to your Binance account and click on 'Wallet' and then on 'Overview' in the dropdown menu.

  2. Click on 'Transaction History' and find the TXID under [TxID].
