Monero (XMR), a privacy-focused cryptocurrency, has a unique issuance model that differs from traditional fiat currencies or even other cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.

1. Initial Issuance

Monero was officially launched on April 18, 2014, with an initial issuance quantity of 85,630,465 XMR. These coins were distributed to the public through an anonymous crowdfunding process.

2. Issue Price

Monero does not have a fixed or predetermined issue price. Unlike fiat currencies, which are backed by central banks, or other cryptocurrencies that may have a defined market value at launch, Monero's value is determined solely by market forces.

3. Issuance Schedule

Monero has an ongoing issuance schedule that gradually releases new XMR into circulation. Every two minutes on average, a new block is created, which yields a total of 0.3 XMR in block rewards. This reward is distributed to the miner who successfully verifies and adds the block to the Monero blockchain.

4. Tail Emission

Unlike some cryptocurrencies with a definitive supply limit, Monero has implemented a tail emission to ensure a sustained level of block rewards. After approximately 10 years from launch, the block reward will decrease by 50% every six months. This gradual reduction is intended to prevent inflation and maintain the value of XMR over the long term.

5. Inflation Rate

Monero's issuance schedule and tail emission mechanism result in a decreasing inflation rate over time. Initially, the inflation rate was approximately 4.2%. However, as the issuance slows down, the inflation rate will gradually decrease to a steady level that is intended to stabilize the supply and demand of XMR.
