Zcash, a privacy-focused cryptocurrency, was first released in October 2016. The original issuance of Zcash was set at 21 million coins, with a target inflation rate of 1.25% per year.

Issuance

Zcash's issuance is based on a unique "Founders' Reward" mechanism. Upon its launch, 10% of the total supply, or 2.1 million ZEC, was allocated to the Zcash Foundation and early contributors. This reward was intended to fund the ongoing development and promotion of Zcash.

The remaining 90% of the supply, or 18.9 million ZEC, was gradually issued through block rewards to miners. The block reward started at 50 ZEC per block and halved approximately every four years. The next halving is scheduled to occur in November 2024.
