OKX Exchange was founded in 2017 . Its predecessor was OKEx, which was originally a world-leading digital asset service platform. Since its establishment, OKX has been growing and growing, and has built a rich and diverse product matrix, covering currency, leverage, options/delivery/perpetual contracts, DEX trading, Yubibao, DeFi mining, lending and other businesses. On October 31, 2017, OKEx was officially launched , marking its emergence in the digital asset trading market. Then on January 20, 2018, the platform launched an important platform coin OKB. On June 19 of the same year, OKEx launched the win-win plan for open exchanges, which was later renamed the OKEx cloud platform. During the development process, the registration place of OKEx has also changed. On July 2, 2018, its registered place was moved from Belize to Malta, and its offices and recruitment of talents were established in Malta, which laid the foundation for its expansion of the international market.

On February 2, 2021, OKEx officially launched the Chinese name "Ouyi". On October 13 of the same year, affected by the regulatory policies of mainland China, OKEx issued a notice that since September 2017, it has shifted its business focus to the international market and no longer promotes and services for the mainland China market. Its website is inaccessible in mainland China, and the app has also been removed from the application market in mainland China. On January 18, 2022, cryptocurrency exchange Ouyi announced another major change, and OKEx was renamed OKX.
