how to view ethereum transactions
To view an Ethereum transaction, simply input its hash or associated address into a block explorer like Etherscan for comprehensive details such as block number, timestamp, and the involved addresses.
Oct 17, 2024 at 09:36 am
How to View Ethereum Transactions
1. Open a Block Explorer
A block explorer is a website or tool that allows users to explore data related to the Ethereum blockchain, including transactions. Some popular block explorers include:
- [Etherscan](https://etherscan.io)
- [Blockchair](https://blockchair.com/ethereum)
- [Blockchain.com](https://www.blockchain.com/explorer/addresses?view=eth)
2. Enter the Transaction Hash or Address
Once you have chosen a block explorer, you can enter either the transaction hash or the address associated with the transaction you want to view. The transaction hash is a unique identifier for each transaction on the blockchain. You can find the transaction hash in a confirmation email, transaction history, or by searching for it on the block explorer.
3. View the Transaction Details
After entering the transaction hash or address, the block explorer will display the details of the transaction. This information typically includes:
- Block Number: The number of the block in which the transaction was included.
- Timestamp: The date and time when the transaction was processed.
- From: The address of the sender.
- To: The address of the recipient.
- Value: The amount of ETH being sent.
- Gas Price: The amount of ETH paid per unit of gas required to process the transaction.
- Gas Used: The total amount of gas required to process the transaction.
- Status: The current status of the transaction (e.g., confirmed, pending).
4. Explore the Surrounding Blocks
If you want to see the context of the transaction, you can also click on the block number to view the surrounding blocks. This can be useful for understanding the flow of transactions within a particular time frame and to find related transactions.
Additional Tips:
- To view the source code for a smart contract that was deployed or interacted with, click on the Contract Address field in the transaction details.
- You can also use block explorers to track the balance of addresses and to search for specific transactions or blocks based on criteria such as timestamp or sender/recipient.
