What is Staking?
Staking is the process of locking up a cryptocurrency in a wallet to support the operation of a blockchain network. By participating in staking, you help to secure the network and validate transactions, earning rewards in the process.
Benefits of Staking SYS
- Earn passive rewards for supporting the Syscoin network
- Contribute to the security and growth of the Syscoin ecosystem
- Lock in your SYS coins and potentially increase their value over time
Prerequisites for Staking SYS
- Hold a non-custodial wallet that supports SYS staking
- Have a minimum amount of SYS required for staking (currently 1000 SYS)
- Ensure your wallet is connected to the internet and synchronized with the blockchain
Step-by-Step Staking Guide
1. Choose a Staking Wallet
- Syscoin Masternode Wallet (Node.js): Official wallet with full Masternoding features for SYS staking
- Trezor Model T (Hardware Wallet): Secure hardware wallet that supports SYS staking
2. Send SYS to Your Staking Address
- Generate a new SYS receiving address in your staking wallet
- Transfer the required amount of SYS (minimum 1000) to your receiving address
3. Enable Staking
- In the staking wallet, navigate to the Staking tab or section
- Select the Enable Staking option and enter the desired staking amount
4. Wait for the Staking Period
- Once enabled, your wallet will begin the staking process, which is cyclical
- The staking period can range from a few hours to a few days, depending on the chosen wallet
5. Withdraw Rewards
- Once a staking period ends, you can withdraw your earned rewards to your wallet
- The rewards are distributed in newly minted SYS tokens and can be claimed manually or automatically, depending on the wallet
Managing Your Staked SYS
- Edit Staking Amount: You can adjust the amount of SYS you are staking at any time, but the changes will only take effect at the end of a staking period
- Suspend Staking: You can temporarily stop staking your SYS if necessary, but you will not earn rewards during the suspension period
- Withdraw Staking: You can withdraw your staked SYS at any time, but you may need to wait for the end of a staking period before the funds are fully available
